Facebook Announces Sports Stadium, Taps The Second Screen Experience

Facebook announced today a new venture called “Sports Stadium”.

What is it? According to the social media site, it’s a “dedicated place to experience sports in real-time with your friends and the world.”

So it’s a live, real-time chatroom (a la Twitter) just on Facebook with graphical play-by-play and without cluttering up timelines of non-fans.

Right now I watch sports often with a second screen like phone or table open to Twitter. Facebook hopes I now move to their service – doubtful since right now Twitter has the “expert” opinions I’m interested in.

While it’s been around a long while on the internet (live chats!), down the road, this Facebook service could be used for TV shows, movies, concerts, debates and other live events. And maybe tempt some ad $$$.
