23 Oct Google Adds Twitter Tweets To Search Results
Google announced that is has reached an agreement with popular social site twitter to provide the search giant with real-time, live tweets relevant to user searches.
That means when you search for “weather in Kentucky” you may also see twitter tweets about the weather in Kentucky, or at least that’s the idea.
Opening the doors to twitter does lend itself to problems. The messaging site is continuously bombarded with spammers and marketers and now that the mighty Google will display tweets, this will likely only get worse.
Further, how will Google decide on what tweets to show over another tweet off of twitter’s 140 character message limit? Will it be based on some sort of user data like number of followers, history of tweets, retweet percentage or something else?
Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Right now the jury is out on whether this will improve the search listing or further clutter them up. For the moment I’m going to say the latter.
